The conditions of prayer
The Conditions of Prayer are nine in number:
1- Islam (being a Muslim).
2- The reason (being aware).
3- Discernment (between good and evil) ie. the age of Reason.
4- Purification (major and minor ablutions).
5- The removal of impurities.
6- Cover your private parts.
7- The entry of the hour of Prayer.
8- Orientation towards the Qibla.
9- Intent.
The Pillars of Prayer
The pillars of prayer are fourteen in number:
1- Stand up for those who can.
2- The opening Takbîr (Allahu Akbar).
3- Recite sura “al Fâtiha”.
4- The inclination (roukou’).
5- Straightening after tilting.
6- The prostration on seven limbs.
7- Straightening up after prostration.
8- Sit between the two prostrations.
9- Tranquility in the accomplishment of each of these acts.
10- The order between the pillars.
11- The last Tashahhoud.
12- Sit down (to recite it).
13- The Prayer on the Prophet – Prayer and Salvation on him.
14- The two greetings.
The obligations of prayer
There are eight obligatory acts of prayer:
1- All Takbîr except the opening one.
2- Say: “Sami‘Allah li man Hamidah’ (May Allah grant the one who praises Him) for the Imam and the one who prays alone.
3- Say: “Rabbana wa lak al Hamd” (O our Lord! To you the praise!) for all.
4- Say: “Subhana Rabbi al ‘Adhîm” (Purity to my Lord the Immense!) during the inclination.
5- Say: “Subhana Rabbi al ‘Ala”(Purity to my Lord the Most High!) during prostration.
6- Say: “Rabbi ghfir li” (O Lord! Forgive me!) between the two prostrations.
7- The first Tashahhud.
8- And sit down to recite it.
